President Scott Chabot called the Mount Clemens Rotary Club to order at 12:15 p.m.
Christine LaTour led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem and Sam Wireman led the club in “The Four-Way Test.” Vita Simmons gave the benediction.
The day’s menu featured chicken piccata with roasted potatoes, everyone’s favorite green beans, tossed salad and red velvet cake.
PRESIDENT’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
*** President Scott thanked everyone who pitched in on the project at the YMCA with a special nod to Tom Welsh, Nancy Dedenbach and Ed Mastry. Valerie Miller noted that the project was funded by two grants written by President Scott and totaled $12,500. Clearly the year is off to a great start!
*** Everyone was encouraged to “save the date” for the Dick Pierson Rotary Golf Classic on September 15. Eric Pierson will be providing more details shortly.
*** President Scott thanked Ted DeVantier for the Macomb Rotary Foundation’s approval of a grant for Clinton Township’s inclusive playground.

Gary Felts paid $3 for talking at length about completing his bucket list by taking a Viking River Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and then for some hiccups with his rendition of “R-O-T-A-R-Y.” Stephanie Mirabile paid $1 for her trip to Maine. Kathleen Best and Stephanie each paid $1 for being best dressed. Ed Mastry paid $2 for his journey to Marquette and Mackinac Island. Julie Miller paid $2 for her trip to Chicago and Ken Steele paid $3. Louise Rallis paid $2 for going “up north.” Lunch line cutters were fined as follows: Bob Lee - $2; Kim Jarvis - $1; and Jessie Johnson – $2.
SPEAKER President Scott introduced speaker Neil Sheradin, Executive Director of the Michigan Townships Association (MTA). The MTA was formed in 1953 as a unified voice representing Michigan's township governments. It is the largest community of local government officials in the state, and one of the largest in the nation. More than 99% of Michigan 1,240 townships are MTA members which include 6,500 elected officials. Services include advocacy, education and training tools for township officials. Top issues face by townships across the state today include sand and gravel operations as well as safety and other regulations for short-term rental properties, such as for AirBnB and VRBO.
