President Jeff Furest called the meeting to order at 12:16 p.m. and all members present participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. And, Gary Felts’ piano talents accompanied the group while singing “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Kim Jarvis led the group in “The Four-Way Test” followed by the invocation presented by Bob Lee.
President Furest called out Nancy Dedenbach for showing up on May 26 for the numerously announced cancelled pre-Memorial Day meeting. In her defense, Nancy outlined the many days she has been away and did not remember that this meeting is annually cancelled.
Making a case for using the website, President Furest stressed that it is important to check and pay attention to notification and check club news as the new website will be the main communication vehicle to members.
Long-time member Glenn Burton gave a brief overview of his trip to Alaska which included a stop at the Anchorage East Rotary Club to swap club flags. This 85-member club holds its weekly meeting in the University of Alaska basketball stadium club. On behalf of the Mount Clemens Rotary Club, President Furest accepted the presentation of the long-travelled flag. Of note was that the club just started meeting in person once again in May 2022.
FLOWERS, BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES
Sam Wireman did a fine job with Birthdays and Anniversaries. Although he does take impeccable care of his appearance, none of the members actually believed that Larry Neal was celebrating his 35th birthday. Those receiving flowers were Larry Neal, Don Carnaghi, Vita Simmons for jumping in to take photos, Nancy Dedenbach and the Hunchfree team.
MUSIC
Ryan Murphy chose the meeting songs which everyone heartily enjoyed singing. Rousing renditions of “I’m Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover” and “Roll Rotary” had everyone exercising their vocal abilities.
RECOGNITION
Nancy Dedenbach did quite a wonderful job with Recognition. For the third meeting in a row, Glenn Burton was fined for his Alaska trip. This time for no bread pudding. Larry Neal was fined for lying about his age and Nancy fined herself for coming to the cancelled pre-Memorial Day meeting.
Nancy then went table to table with some local Rotary trivia. None of the members knew which building burned down to create the vacant lot on which Rotary Park now stands.
Everyone was fined $1 for their lack of the “Two Door Bar” fire. She then continued by asking who was the oldest living Rotarian. Luckily, Glenn Burton has been a member long enough to know that the answer was Ray Glime.
SPEAKER
The speaker this week was a member of the Hunchfree web team: Luke. He presented a fine Powerpoint outlining many of the new options of the website included a notes feature, ability of upload documents, and taking attendance. Jess Johnson was looking for a little more information about how the auto billing and invoicing feature would work since she is Treasurer and will be responsible for ensuring those features are working accurately.
At the end of the meeting, as usual, was the 50/50 drawing which enhanced the wallet of Jimmy Gwidzala by $45.
