OPENING ACTIVITIES
President Scott Chabot opened the meeting promptly at 12:15 p.m. Glenn Burton led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Louise Rallis was selected to lead her fellow Rotarians, and guests, in “The Four-Way Test.” As always, Bob Lee presented a meaningful and heartfelt prayer.
Lunch was enjoyed by all and consisted of: beef barley soup, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli, chicken and salad. As a fall-themed dessert, some members of the group enjoyed a spicy petit pumpkin bundt cake with caramel sauce.
PRESIDENT’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
*** President Chabot gave a quick recap of the polio fundraiser held on October 26. The event raised $600. Thanks to Kathleen Best and Thomas Walsh for their stellar event planning talents to ensure the event was a success.
*** Announcements consisted of the District 6380 fundraiser on Saturday, November 5 at the Novi Showplace preceded by the Richmond Rotary fundraiser. Lastly, the inclusive playground will be the recipient of funds from another fundraiser on November 3.
GUESTS
Those present sang to luncheon guest and presenter Mo Leets. A rousing rendition of "Glad to See You Here at Rotary" made her feel right at home.
CELEBRATIONS & FLOWERS
Sam Wireman presented Louise Rallis with a beautiful red carnation in honor of her birthday on October 26. She received yet another carnation for her Rotary anniversary.
The remaining flowers went to Tina, Scott, Ellen, Jess.
MUSIC
Kathleen Best led the group in the singing starting out with "Old MacDonald" followed by "R-O-T-A-R-Y."
ERIC PIERSON LED ANNOUNCEMENTS & RECOGNITION
Christine LaTour told the group about the Packing for the Troops event with more than 150 boxes filled that day.
Kathleen Best asked her fellow Rotarians to dig deep in their pockets if they were not able to attend the October 26 polio fundraiser and select a "money envelope" from her big board. Depending on the envelope selected donations ranged from $5-$20. Among those participating in the extra donations were, Ellen Lysick, Kim Jarvis, Larry Neal, Bob Lee, Sam Wireman. An additional $300 was raised on-site to make the grand total $900.
THERE WERE NO SUNSHINE REPORTS
RECOGNITION
Eric asked all MSU and UofM alumni to stand in recognition of the "big" game on Saturday, October 28 in Ann Arbor. Standing and fined $1 per point were Jess Johnson, Larry Neal and Gary Felts.
Everyone who was not in attendance at the October 26 fundraiser was also dinged for $1. Bob Lee was charged $4 as payback for the previous week's "unfair" fine to current finer Eric Pierson.
Glenn Burton was fined $5 in absentia for going to Ecuador again and leaving the meeting early. Frequent travelers Stephanie and Kathleen were both fined for their recent trip to Atlantic City with Stephanie double-dinged for also traveling to Vail CO. Larry paid $5 for going on a European cruise. Gary was fined for being a tomato hoarder at today's lunch to the tune of $3. Kathleen received an additional fine for choosing "Old MacDonald" on a day when chicken was being served for lunch. Ellen Lysick was fined $1 because no good deed goes unpunished.
PROGRAM
Meeting guest speaker Mo Leets then took the podium for her presentation. She began by thanking the group for all they do to raise money for polio because her 86-year-old father had been stricken by the disease when he was young.
She spoke about the Sparkle Heartbreakers event that was created at now-closed restaurant Barleycorn to support women and girls in need. The first beneficiary was Turning Point. In her Sparkle Universe there exists several different avenues that provide much-needed support: Prom Closet, Alzheimer's and Dementia Fund, Business Interview and Clothing Drive, Girls Night Out.
50/50
Closing the meeting the 50/50 winning ticket was pulled by Mo Leets and this substitute bulletin writer forgot to write down who won or how much the pot was. Oops.
